Cellulite Treatment

Smooth those dimples

Most women have cellulite  - whether its clinging to the back of their legs, spreading across their hips or concentrated on their bottom. And reducing that dimpled or lumpy skin texture is frustratingly tricky - until now!

  • What if you could reduce your cellulite by a grade?
  • How would it open up your wardrobe to shorts, mini-skirts and swimwear?

Our ONDA machine uses microwave energy to target the underlying structures of your skin to reduce cellulite - key facts:

  • You need 4 treatments spaced every 4 weeks.
  • You can expect up to 1 grade improvement 3 months after last treatment .
  • Discomfort level is 2/10 with some slight redness post treatment.
  • You can go back go back to work, socialise or exercise immediately afterwards.

Fat cells are grouped together into large conglomerates (called adipocytes) separated by fibrous strands, made of elastin and collagen, which are anchored between the fascia superficialis and the skin holding the fat cells in place.

When the fat cells push against the skin these fibrous strands pull against the skin resulting in a dimpled or lumpy appearance.

Cellulite occurs more often in women than in men, as the fibrous strands in women are arranged in parallel rows, like pillars. This pattern lends itself to the compartmentalization of fat, which makes dimpling of the skin easily visible. Men’s collagen is arranged in an X-pattern which reduces the ability for compartments to form and create dimpling.

There are two main causes of cellulite:

  1. Poor lifestyle choices that lead to larger fat cells with increased water retention around them due to poor lymphatic drainage. As a result the adipocytes swell in size bulging up causing a more pronounced dimpled skin surface.
  2. As you age, the body naturally produces less collagen and elastin, and as woman age less oestrogen - these factors reduce the elasticity of the fibrous strands which means the dimpling becomes even more visible as the fibres become less stretchy.

As a result a healthy diet and exercise will always help reduce the appearance of cellulite, but becomes less effective as you age. However, the ONDA treatments can reduce the number of swollen fat cells and improve the lymphatic drainage while increasing the elasticity of those fibrous strands.

ONDA technology uses microwaves, at a special frequency, that pass through your skin leaving it unharmed and are absorbed by the adipocytes causing the enlarged fat cells to rupture releasing droplets of fat. These fat droplets are then targeted by your macrophages and eliminated from your body through your lymphatic system.

At the same time the microwaves stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the fibrous strands making them more stretchy. As a result there is less dimpling in the surface of your skin making it feel smoother and firm.

ONDA's microwave technology is more effective than radiofrequency in the treatment of cellulite because 80% of the energy reaches the fat layer and only 20% is absorbed by the skin. Radiofrequency is more effective for treating skin laxity.

We recommend a course of 4 ONDA treatments spaced every 4 weeks.  Results are progressive and work with your boy's natural healing cycle, so you should start to notice change after your second treatment and results can improve for up to 3 months after your last treatment, which is when we will review them together.

Individual results will vary, but typically patients can see up to one grade improvement in cellulite from a course. Repeat courses can be used to make further improvements, but it should recognised that with increasing age it would be unrealistic to achieve a grade zero.

Illustrative example of cellulite grades

Liquid paraffin is used to lubricate the skin and help the ONDA tip glide over it, so your skin will feel supple and soft after treatment.

The ONDA has a cooling device that makes the touch of the tip feel cool as it glides over your skin. As the treatment progresses the energy will heat the fat cells which feels similar to a hot stone massage. Discomfort level is typically a 2/10.

After treatment your practitioner will perform a firm lymphatic massage on the treated areas to accelerate the removal of fat droplets. To assist you lymphatic system we recommend that for 2-3 days post treatment you:

  • Drink at least 2 litres of water per day.
  • Engage in light physical activity such as walking.
  • Massage the treated areas with a roller.

Most people find they can go back to work, socialise and exercise immediately. Some find the area is slightly red and feels a little tender, but this resolves in a couple of days.

ONDA is suitable for most people of any skin tone. A consultation is required prior to treatment to check your medical history and create a tailored treatment plan appropriate for your cellulite grade.

Not suitable

Unfortunately people with the following conditions cannot be treated:

  • Pregnant or breast feeing.
  • Have a heart implant / pacemaker.
  • Have metal implants.
  • Have tattoos that cover the area.
  • Suffer with decompensated diabetes type 1 or 2.
  • Suffer with any form of blood disorder.
  • Suffer with kidney or liver dysfunction.

ONDA is suitable for treating cellulite in your inner and outer thighs or buttocks. Patients new to this treatment must have a consultation to check their medical history and ensure the treatment is appropriate for them.

Treatments typically take 30 mins during which 2 quadrants of 15cm x 15cm are treated - 1 quadrants on each thigh or buttock. Should the cellulite extend to a wider area than 15cm x 15 cm we recommend completing a package on the area most concerning you before treating the next area.

Treatment Options £
Package of 4 treatments of 2 quadrants of 15cm x 15cm  600
Single treatment of 2 quadrants of 15cm x 15cm  200
Consultation  35

Can ONDA treat over a tattoo area?

We would recommend - no , unless the exact composition of the tattoo ink is known and does not contain metallic components. Metallic elements inside the pigment can interact with the microwave technology causing problems.
