Dr Joanna Niciejewska is the newest addition to the DRVICTORIA™ Clinic team. Here she turns the spotlight on two of her most popular treatments and reveals the secret to achieving the most natural looking results…
Taking an individual approach
Dr Joanna joins the team with seven years of valuable experience in the field of medical aesthetics. After graduating with a Master of Science in Aesthetic Medicine in 2016, Dr Joanna completed a range of further courses and regularly attends conferences to stay at the top of her game. However, according to Dr Joanna, a good medical aesthetics doctor is not just someone with all the relevant knowledge and education. It is someone who can “Follow the protocol, yet also be flexible enough to adapt to each individual patient’s needs. Only that way can you deliver the best results” she says.
And this commitment to seeing every patient as an individual with unique needs and expectations is exactly why she has fitted into the team so quickly.
The top trio
In addition to her commitment to an individual approach, Dr Joanna is also passionate about achieving natural looking results. When it comes to full facial rejuvenation, one way she achieves this is by combining Botox® with dermal fillers. “They complement each other,” she says, “And you get much better results by combining them, rather than choosing just one. Just one modality can’t fix everything, but together you can get a beautiful outcome.”
“My patients often laugh when I ask them – what’s your favourite dessert? It’s hard to choose just one because there’s a lot in each dessert that makes them taste great! Well, it’s the same with facial treatments. One modality can offer a certain result, but with a more comprehensive approach that involves a combination of treatments, you can achieve so much more.”
For many people looking to reverse signs of ageing and enhance their natural beauty, Dr Joanna believes some of the best results can be achieved by combining Botox®, dermal fillers and a tailored skincare routine.
A popular choice
One treatment proving popular at the moment is the ‘lip flip’. This involves injecting Botox® into the upper lip to relax the muscles, resulting in the upper lip flipping slightly upward. Although the procedure makes the lip look more prominent, it does not actually increase the size of the lip.
According to Dr Joanna, this is a great treatment for Gen Z patients who might still be fairly new to the world of medical aesthetics, but who “Want just a little touch of something to enhance what they naturally have. I call it the subtle fairy-tale kiss effect!”
However, for those who want to create a bit more impact, Dr Joanna can combine the lip flip with dermal filler to add volume to the lips. Crucially, the key to achieving great results with this combination is “Less is more. That way, you still look natural, just better” says Dr Joanna. “So I advise starting small, perhaps with just 0.5ml, to help give the lips more structure, definition and juiciness.”
Again, to achieve the very best results, Dr Joanna emphasises the need to recognise that everyone is different and therefore expectations need to be managed accordingly. One person may want more definition, another may want more volume, and another may want better symmetry and facial harmony. That’s why consultations are so important – this gives Dr Joanna the opportunity to listen carefully to your concerns before deciding what course of action will get the results you really want.
The key to facial rejuvenation
Another in-demand treatment right now is the masseter Botox® treatment which targets the muscles located near your cheekbones. Dr Joanna explains there are two main reasons for this treatment; “One would be for dental reasons, to relax the muscles to help reduce teeth grinding. The other reason is purely for aesthetics, to create a smoother jawline. It’s a great treatment for ladies with a strong, masculine-like jawline who would like to soften their look.”
However, it is important to understand that this treatment is not for everyone. It is not advisable for someone with problematic dental occlusion or someone whose jaw makes clicking noises, for example. And aesthetically, it is not suitable for someone with significant jowling or a person whose heavier weight might mask the results.
Again, this is why Dr Joanna places so much importance on the initial doctor-patient consultation. “It is during the consultation that we can discuss patient expectations (which are sometimes based on what the patient has seen online, but which may not necessarily be achievable for them). After a thorough discussion, we can reach a mutual understanding about what results can be realistically delivered.”
And whilst excelling in managing patient expectations, Dr Joanna’s patients come back to her time and again because the results often give them even more of a confidence boost than they expected. “The most rewarding part of my job? When a patient is thrilled with the results and I see those happy tears. It’s something really quite special to be able to deliver that.”
