Tear trough treatment is a popular injectable procedure designed to address hollowing, dark shadows, and a "tired" appearance under the eyes.

What Exactly is a "Tear Trough"?

The tear trough is the physical groove or "depression" that runs from the inner corner of your eye down toward the upper cheek. As we age, or due to genetics, this area can lose volume, creating a shadow that looks like a dark circle.

What is Cellular Matrix™?

Cellular Matrix™ is an advanced injectable treatment that blends PRP (platelet-rich plasma) taken from your own blood with hyaluronic acid (a hydrating gel found naturally in the skin). Using patented technology from Swiss pharmaceutical company RegenLab, these ingredients are prepared to form a “Cellular Matrix” designed to provide an immediate and progressive correction.

How Does it Help Tear Troughs?

  • Stimulates collagen: Growth factors in PRP trigger your body to produce new collagen, thickening the skin.
  • Adds hydration & volume: Hyaluronic acid provides immediate plumping and deep hydration.
  • Reduces darkness: PRP helps improve skin structure and blood supply to lessen the appearance of dark circles caused by hollowness or thin skin.
  • Improves texture: PRP helps improve crepiness, fine lines, and dullness for firmer, more radiant skin.

The Cellular Matrix™ Treatment Process

  1. Blood draw: A small blood sample is taken from you.
  2. Processing: The blood is processed to PRP.
  3. Combination: PRP is mixed with HA.
  4. Injection: The matrix is injected into the tear trough area.
  5. Sessions: Typically 1-2 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart are recommended.

Results & Downtime

  • Initial results: Enhanced hydration within a couple of weeks.
  • Full results: Firmness and texture continue improving over months.
  • Longevity: Effects can last 6-12 months or more, requiring maintenance.
  • Downtime: Mild swelling, redness, or bruising can occur for a few days.

Am I a good candidate for tear trough treatment?

You are likely a good candidate if you have hollowing (sunken eyes) rather than puffiness.

  • Ideal for: Deep grooves, volume loss, and shadows caused by hollowing.
  • Not ideal for: Large "eye bags" (fat pads), severe skin laxity (loose skin), or dark circles caused purely by skin pigmentation (melanin).

Do tear trough treatments have serious risks?

Though extremely rare, vascular occlusion is a serious risk that requires immediate medical attention. In the most severe cases, this can lead to vision loss. This is why it is critical to choose a healthcare professional with specific training in under-eye anatomy to perform the treatment.

Safety and Comfort

Needle vs. Cannula: Which is better?

We prefer to use a micro-cannula because it is generally safer, causes less bruising, and requires only one tiny entry point on each cheek.

Does it hurt?

We use local anaesthetic injections and a numbing cream to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. Most patients describe the sensation as a "pressure" rather than sharp pain.
