Sculptra® isn’t your average injectable. It’s made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)—a safe, biodegradable ingredient used in medicine for decades. Once it’s injected, the PLLA gets to work beneath the surface, kick-starting collagen production. Think of it as training your skin to help itself.
Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, which provide an instant plumping effect, Sculptra®’s magic happens gradually. Over a series of collagen injections, your skin naturally rebuilds volume, leaving it firmer, smoother, and subtly lifted. Bonus: results can last up to two years!
But here’s the thing: because Sculptra® builds natural collagen, it’s not reversible. That’s why it’s important to have a proper chat with your practitioner beforehand to make sure it’s the right fit for you.
How Long Do Sculptra® Results Take?
Sculptra® is the ultimate slow burner. You won’t walk out of the clinic looking dramatically different (and that’s the point). Instead, improvements sneak up on you over 6 to 12 months, as your collagen levels are restored.
Here’s the usual Sculptra® plan:
- Two Sculptra® injections spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart to kick things off.
- Annual Sculptra® injection to keep the results going strong.
The result? Natural-looking volume and skin that just looks you, but a few years younger.

What Happens During a Treatment?
The process is super straightforward and designed to keep you as comfortable as possible.
Step 1: Consultation
Before anything else, you’ll have a proper consultation to chat about what you’d like to achieve. Your practitioner will take some photos for your records and create a written treatment plan and quote tailored to you.
Step 2: Preparation
On treatment day, you’ll need to arrive with makeup-free, clean skin. Your practitioner will go over your treatment plan again, talk you through the aftercare, and ask for your consent. A topical or local anaesthetic might be applied to minimise discomfort.
Step 3: Procedure
- Your practitioner will mark up the treatment areas to make sure everything is precise.
- Using a fine cannula, they’ll carefully inject Sculptra® into the areas that need a boost, like the cheeks and jawline.
- The whole thing takes around 30–45 minutes.
You might notice a bit of initial fullness straight after (that’s just the water component of the injection), but this will settle down within 48 hours. The real magic? That unfolds over the following weeks and months.
Does Sculptra® make your face look fat?
No. Sculptra® is designed to restore natural volume and contour, not to create a puffy or overfilled appearance - often associated with poorly done dermal fillers. The gradual results allow for subtle enhancements that look like you - just refreshed.
Can Sculptra® improve acne scars?
Sculptra® is an excellent volumizing treatment but isn't specifically designed for acne scars. It’s injected deeper than the layers where acne scarring typically benefits. Treatments like microneedling or HA fillers may be more effective for improving acne scar texture.
Is Sculptra® reversible?
No. Unlike HA Filler treatments Sculptra® is not a reversible treatment. At your consultation your practitioner can explain alternate options that are reversible so you can make an informed decision.
Aftercare
Sculptra® is all about results that look natural, but good aftercare is key. Here’s what to do:
- Massage It: Follow the 5-5-5 rule - massage the area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. This helps distribute the product evenly.
- Take It Easy: Avoid strenuous activities, saunas, or anything sweaty for the first 48 hours.
- Reduce Swelling and Bruising: A cold compress can help, and steer clear of alcohol or blood-thinning meds for 48 hours.
- Be Patient: Improvements will become noticeable around the 6-month mark, which is when we will review progress at a complimentary review.

Sculptra® has to be specially prepared for your appointment. Once it’s been made, it can’t be used for anyone else or saved for later.
For that reason, we ask for full payment in advance, and we’re unable to offer a refund if the appointment is missed. If you need to change your booking, please contact reception at least 48 hours beforehand and we’ll be happy to reschedule you.
