Profhilo® is an excellent treatment to boost your skin hydration resulting in improved skin tone and texture. It is safe, quick to perform and provides noticable results.
What is Profhilo®?
Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid for skin which is losing elasticity and firmness with age. You can be treated on the face, neck, decollete, arms and hands. You will see noticeable improvement in skin tone and firmness immediately. Minor fine lines may also be reduced or disappear.
Hyaluronic acid is best known as a "dermal filler" and is often used to give volume to lips or contour other areas of the face. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance produced in our body, found in skin, joints and other connective tissue. Its role is to retain moisture in the body and aid collagen production. It can hold 1000 times its weight in water which makes it ideal for binding moisture in the skin. With age, however, hyaluronic acid production slows and the skin looks duller and dehydrated, with fine lines and wrinkles forming.
However, Profhilo® differs from other fillers in a number of ways due to its structure which allows it to flow over an extended area to boost hydration and smooth or ‘remodel’ the skin.
How does Profhilo® work?
Profhilo contains one of the highest concentrations of stabilised hyaluronic acid currently available. When it is injected just underneath the surface of your skin it disperses quickly and reacts with your own tissue to instantly boost hydration. Over 4 weeks phase it goes to work boosting elastin and collagen production to give your skin a plumper, smoother and firmer appearance.
Due to its gel like consistency Profhilo distributes smoothly and evenly without the formation of any lumps – a potential risk with traditional fillers. This means it can be used on areas which are difficult to treat with traditional fillers, such as the neck and forehead.
Who can benefit from this treatment?
Men and woman, typically over 30 with skin laxity, can be treated on the face, neck and body with a course of 2 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.
You will see noticeable results immediately, but optimum results show 1 month after the second treatment. Result typically last for 4-6 months depending on lifestyle.
The procedure involves less injections than other filler products for skin hydration making it more tolerable. A painkiller taken half an hour before treatment to reduce discomfort.
What are the side effects of treatment?
This is a safe treatment with minimal recovery time allowing you to return to normal activities immediately. You may experience slight redness, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area for up to 48 hours after treatment. Like any medical procedure there is a risk complications can occur - minor swelling and micro-bruising can occur at injection points if you bruise easily.
This treatment is not suitable for patients who:
- have active skin infections at the planned site of injections,
- are pregnant or nursing women,
- using anticoagulants.
